My experience in Chiang Mai University's Food Science & Technology (FST) program has significantly broadened my professional and social perspectives. The students are exceptionally welcoming, promoting a safe and inclusive environment for emerging cultures. The FST program notably stands out due to the diverse range of career opportunities it provides post-graduation. However, one limitation of the program is its heavy emphasis on theoretical academics over practical application. For international students, the selection of major electives can feel somewhat restricted, and the coursework is distinctly geared more toward food science than food technology. Overall, while the faculty’s resources for international students are still in a developmental phase, CMU provides a strong learning environment, and the professors are demonstrating a clear commitment to improving the curriculum year by year.

Since Chiang Mai is close to Myanmar and has a friendly culture, studying here feels very comfortable. Because of the large Myanmar community and the familiar atmosphere, it feels just like home. The professors are understanding toward Myanmar students, and the quality of teaching is excellent. It’s also a great department because they offer many scholarships and travel opportunities. If you want to study subjects that meet international standards and are practically applicable within the region, this major is the perfect choice.
